Half-time!

Hello dear readers! We know, we’ve left you waiting for almost a week for another update, but don’t forget: we’re just a bunch of hobbyists. We do have day jobs to tend to, and frankly, we’re in the middle of a rather calm part of the primary season right now. So if there’s any period where we can slack a bit, this is it.

Anyway, the highlight of the past week took place on April 3, as Wisconsin, Maryland and Washington DC headed for the voting booths. Highlight is a relative term here though, because it wasn’t a very exciting race in the three states. Mitt Romney was heading into the three primaries with a large lead in the polls, and that lead came back in the final results. Romney won all three primaries hands down and he now has over half the delegates he needs to secure the nomination. It did present the big cable news networks with some problems though, because how do you keep something that isn’t exciting, exciting? This video by TPM shows how CNN tried nevertheless:

The results of the three primaries was hardly reassuring for Rick Santorum, who now has barely a third of Romney’s delegate tally. Several Republicans and commentators therefore feel that Santorum should just hit the road and hand victory to Romney, so that the Obama attacking can start in full. But Rick will do no such thing. According to Santorum, the race is far from over and “it is only half-time”, as he told his supporters on Tuesday night. Well Rick, maybe it is half-time, but in that case you are about 16-0 behind at this point. Oddly enough, only two minutes later Rick claimed “this is not half-time” and he went on to compare himself to George Washington and Ronald Reagan:

So yeah, that was odd. Anyway, if Rick wants to retain any hope of winning the nomination, he will need to strike back on April 24 when New York and Pennsylvania are voting (together with smaller states Rhode Island, Connecticut and Delaware). Now, Pennsylvania is Santorum’s home state so he should stand a good chance there, but as said, more and more Republicans are calling on Santorum to quit. The most remarkable proposal comes from Joe Scarborough, a former Republican member of Congress and now a talkshow host at MSNBC. Scarborough’s suggestion is simple: if Santorum doesn’t quit, Romney should embarrass Santorum to the bone by beating him big-time in his home state. The blonde on the left seems to disagree:

We’re not sure if that’s the right approach to take, but who knows, it might just work. And in a way, it’s interesting to see Scarborough take a page from the G-Unit handbook. The G-Unit handbook? Indeed, following the motto “Nigga you shit on me, I shit on you”:
